Mother Kelly - Fred Meek

Fred Meek

Fred 'Big Daddy' Meek - guitar, vocals. Fred is a veteran guitarist, growing up in the Southern Kansas - Wichita area. Most notably known for his work with the power trio 'Sass', Fred's precision guitar licks and vocal contributions are unmistakable.

Born in Winfield, Kansas.

Started my musical training at an early age by singing with large choir’s, performing classical works, developing a working knowledge of vocal arrangements and harmony.

While attending St’ John’s Military School, I started playing guitar. Also at this time I decided to grow my hair long and become a “Hippie”.

Over the next 15 years I developed my skills performing with many different bands, always searching for that elusive “larger than life” sound I wanted for my guitar.

After many changes of equipment, different guitars and amplifier’s I finally discovered what worked. A Gibson Les Paul guitar with all tubes Marshall Amp’s and nothing else in the way to mess up the signal. I have been using this combination for over 35 years now with no complaint.

After moving to Texas in the early 80’s I shifted my focus to pyrotechnics. As a general manager of Atlas Enterprises Inc. a large fireworks manufacturing and display company based in Fort Worth Texas. I started performing large multi-media presentations using pyrotechnics, lasers, and intelligent lighting. All controlled by computer driven design and firing system. I had an opportunity to perform “on stage pyro” for national acts such as: Guns & Roses, Metallica, Kiss, and The Commodores.

After moving to Ponca City in 2003, I once again felt the void that could only be filled by pounding drums and screaming guitars. After finding some kindred sprits “Mother Kelly” was formed and the rest is still being written!!

“Long Live Rock & Roll”

My Favorite Quote – All life’s problems can be solved with the careful application of high explosives.
